The Navy Maintenance Hangar at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, designed for a US Navy Fleet Logistics Support Squadron, is a 78,915 square foot unit-level facility capable of accommodating either two C-130 or P-3 aircraft. After construction was begun, a helicopter unit was assigned to the facility, necessitating substantial design modifications. The hangar contains approximately 17,000 square feet of shop and office space for ground crew maintenance on the first floor plus 14,000 square feet of office, training and briefing space for flight crew operations and squadron administration on the second floor. The hangar bay is equipped with an AFFF pre-action fire sprinkler system with a 500,000 gallon water storage tank, a 3-ton capacity bridge crane and 43 foot high electrically operated hangar doors.
Emergency generators, fire pumps and air conditioning chillers for the hangar are located in a detached 7,500 square foot utility building. Support facilities include a 1,600 square foot snack bar and storage structures for hazardous/flammable materials, liquid oxygen (LOX), and cartridge activated devices (CADS). Other site work items included approximately 13,000 lineal feet of force sewer main, two sewage pump stations, a sewage pump emergency generator building, aircraft wash rack and equipment building, AFFF retention basin, aircraft fueling truck fill stand, 125-stall parking lot, and construction and/or re-paving of approximately 120,000 square yards of aircraft parking and approach aprons.
